What you need.

A Mac for the Server
macOS 14 or later, with access to your media. Keep the Mac running and reachable while streaming. Processing needs depend on the source format and simultaneous playback.
Your media and storage
A local folder, external drive, or SMB/NAS share is enough to start. Native S3 and Dropbox connections are Studio features.
A playback device
Install the free Player on a supported Apple device. Check the App Store for current OS requirements. Browser access is also available through the Server.
A suitable connection
Start on the same network as your Mac. Remote streaming needs a reachable Server and adequate upload bandwidth. Downloaded media can play offline.

From a folder to your first stream.

  1. Open the Mac Server

    Download and open ShowShark Server on the Mac that will serve your library.

  2. Add your media

    Choose a folder or configure an SMB location. Let the Server scan and organize the library in place.

  3. Connect the Player

    Open the Player on the same network, select your Server, and browse your media. Configure remote access when you are ready to connect from elsewhere.

  4. Play your media

    Choose a video or song in the Player to start streaming. Trial streams are limited to 15 minutes per session.

The current ShowShark Server is a $99 one-time purchase with one year of updates. You can continue using the version covered by your license. Further updates may require renewal. The Player is free.

Common questions.

Do I have to move my library?

No. ShowShark indexes media in place on your Mac, external drives, and SMB/NAS shares.

Do I need port forwarding for remote playback?

No. Built-in remote access connects your paired devices without router port forwarding. Your Server Mac still needs to be running and online.

Can I watch without internet?

Yes. Download supported videos and music to your device before you go offline. Local streaming also works over your home network; online sources need internet access.

Which edition is right for ProRes or Dropbox?

Choose Studio for ProRes, BRAW, R3D, MXF, native S3 or Dropbox connections, and advanced technical inspection. Home includes local drives, SMB/NAS, everyday formats, remote access, and offline downloads.
